Council Member Seeks More Museum Funding

Would you be willing to pay more in property taxes to put more money into Kansas City museums? Councilwoman Deb Hermann wants voters on August fifth to support raising the museum levy by eight cents - to ten-cents. That means for every 100-thousand-dollars of value of your home - your tax bill would go up by about 15 bucks. Right now the tax pays for the Kansas City Museum at Corinthian Hall, but Union Station officials want a five-cent increase in the levy for repairs and operations at Corinthian Hall. Other museums get their money from the general fund. Hermann says she'd put revenue from the higher tax toward other museums, but she hasn't said which ones. A committee will discuss Hermann's proposal on Wednesday morning.
