It was a usual day for Alycia Taylor, who was on duty at the Kansas
University Dialysis Center in Westwood yesterday afternoon. That's
when an SUV slammed into the center, creating a huge 15-foot hole in
the rear of the center. Taylor describes the scene, "I saw ceilings
collapsing, patients being pushed around. Catheters being ripped
out." Westwood Police say the wreck happened during an argument
between a mother and her intoxicated daughter. The daughter allegedly
grabbed the steering wheel, sending the Lincoln Navigator plunging
through a light pole and into the dialysis center. Only one of the
twelve patients being treated suffered further injuries. None of the
four people in the vehicle, including two small children, were
treated for injuries. For Alycia Taylor, she's just happy to have
rescued all of her patients, "That was my concern. Getting my
patients out of there and making sure they were safe."
