Johnson County authorities think there may be additional victims of a stalker who can help them make a case against 31 year old Joseph Horton. They've got him on two misdemeanor counts so far. He's done prison time for similar crimes in the past. His m-o takes the form of observing single women at malls and movie theaters, pouring water in their gas tanks, following them until their cars conk out, and then approaching them with an offer of assistance. Pretty scary, according to Merriam police Lt. Michael Daniels, and that's why they acted when they did, before something worse happened. They've had him under surveillance, and published an internal bulletin with Horton's mugshot. It quotes him as having told police that he feels angry and hateful towards women in general, and expresses those feelings by intimidating young, attractive women. If convicted of these new charges, he could face up to two years in jail. People with more information about Horton are urged to calle the TIPS Hotline at 816 474 t-i-p-s. |
