Ken James

Ken James is on his second tour of duty with KMBZ.  This one started in November 1998.  Previously, he was an anchor/reporter with KMBZ/KMBR in the early '80s.  His other Kansas City stops include WHB, KUDL, and KPHN.  Ken also has worked in Baltimore (WBAL), Charlotte (WBT/WBCY), Columbus, OH (WNCI), and New York (Nat'l Black Network).

Ken was born in the Bronx and raised in Manhattan and Queens.  He graduated from Long Island City High School-- where he was a two-year starter at third.

Ken has a B.S. (Journalism) and J.D. degrees from the University of Kansas.  he's been an "inactive" member of the Kansas bar since September 1978.  He tells people this so they won't be inclined to ask him legal questions (zzzzzzzz).  Ken went to law school only to use the G.I. Bill; he took the bar exam only to see if he could pass it.  He did -- to his everlasting amazement.

Ken spent just under four years in the U.S. Air Force.  The Air Force chose not to send him to Vietnam; he chose not to complain.  For a while, he was a medic -- and there are quite a few people out there, who, as infants, got their first exposure to rectal thermometers at the hands of Airman James.  Ken later got into the American Forces Radio and Television Service and did radio and TV news in South Korea and the Portuguese Azores.  He is a proud recipient of the Air Force Commendation Medalo.

Ken has an acoustic guitar that he likes to mess with whenever he can find the time.  He's married to Brenda, a speech pathologist, and has two children, Kara and Cameron.
